New Free Pattern: Constitution Oak

Many times I like to revisit my traditional patterns and traditional fabrics. They comfort me like no other! Constitution Oak is one I created for Windham Fabrics a few years ago based on an historic quilt. It was published many years ago in a magazine:

Constitution Oak Quilt, unknown date
I have used this block pattern in my Block a Day calendars. I love the symmetry of the blocks, don't you? And I also love applique - when I can do it using my sewing machine!

The pattern is written for both hand and machine applique. You can have it by clicking on the link below. Here is how it looks in the pattern (a purely digital version, though I do have the Farmer Fancy Coverlets Collection). Someday I may make it . . .

  4. Hi Debby -- Thanks for the free pattern. I may never make it or I might surprise myself some day and make a smaller version. It is lovely. I have the perfect place to use a 4 block version. Thanks for sharing.

  5. I agree with you about the traditional patterns and fabrics. I love them. I can sew all day with bright fabrics, but when I go to sleep at night, I want those reproduction fabrics in my quilts. =) This is a great pattern, and I like the version you offered us. Thanks!
