Christmas in July with Homespun Holiday

Yikes! As I write this post it's 95 degrees outside with a heat index of 110 and I'm talking Christmas? Oh, how I wish I had some of that cold weather for an hour or two.

Homespun Holiday is a fabric collection by Benartex and is old fashioned in its personality. Very traditional with deep reds and greens and gold. There's a jolly Santa and evergreen trees flecked with snow (sigh, more of the cold stuff I don't have today).

Homespun Holiday fabrics by Benartex
I created a tree skirt out of these fabrics and you can read all about it and see my step by step tutorial at the Sew in Love with Fabrics blog. And, of course, I offer the free pattern so you can make one too. Very fat quarter friendly! And easy. And quick!

There will be one lucky WINNER for a giveaway of a fat quarter bundle of these fabrics (minus the blenders I added, at the top). There are more (see below)
Homespun Holiday fabrics
To qualify for the GIVEAWAY, leave a comment letting me know what you envision making with a collection like this. It doesn't have to be quilt related! Go visit the Benartex Facebook page (if you do Facebook) and check out all the Christmas fabrics and let me know. Make sure I have your email. Unfortunately, at least 30% of commenters are no-reply bloggers. If you ever wonder why you have never gotten an email reply from me, this is probably why! I try to answer most of my blog commenters.

Contest is over Tuesday July 28th at midnight. THERE ARE GIVEAWAYS OF FABRIC EVERY DAY AT THE SEW IN LOVE WITH FABRIC BLOG!

This is the Benartex Christmas in July blog hop (Sew in Love with Fabrics) so why don't you hop on over there to see what's hoppening - uh, happening!

  31. Great design, Debby, and a good way to have fun with multiple fat quarters or "leftovers" (i.e. fabric not yet used!). My lone-star-based tree skirt is only a few years old, and still just right for our tree each year, but with something special appliqued in the center this design could make a perfect mid-sized table topper. Thanks as always for sharing inspiration and joy! (Sorry if you get this twice; I left a comment on Benartex site also)

  64. Great looking tree skirt Debby! Funny how yours disappeared while moving. I sure hope it wasn't one you loved a lot. I NEED a new tree skirt myself, but for a different reason. Mine is very old style complete with the ruffle and made with a child like fabric. I made mine back in the early 80's when my children were very young. I actually made two that year and gave the one I loved SO much more away. I regretted that 5 minutes afterwards, but I gave my boys the choice to pick which one they wanted to keep and they chose the one I have and am still using. I really do not like it anymore and haven't for a few years now, but I just haven't taken the time to make a new one.

I did visit the Benartex FB page and checked their pictures of all the new fabrics. I really like the Ornamental Splendor collection. Those are very nice, but the Homespun Holiday is a close 2nd. I do know my son and his family need a tree skirt too and that Santa in the Homespun Holiday would be super cute for their skirt and maybe the Santa fabric could be used to make a small runner depending on its size.

Thank you for the wonderful tutorial Debby. Can you tell me about the wedge you used? I know you gave us a template, but I do have a very large Dresden template purchased from Nancy's Notions as well as a 10 degree wedge ruler. Do you know what your template would be considered? I know there is a 9 degree wedge ruler I have been wanting to buy also. I wasn't sure which would be closest to your template. I suppose putting it together and checking myself would be just as easy though. lol

  93. Found this somewhere else might help people - NOTE: I've just realized this tutorial had a printable template, now it's no longer there but it was basically an 18 degree wedge dresden plate ruler. If you have one, just enlarge and use, it's even faster than printing out a template. Hope this helps.
