Card holders for Christmas money
Remember I gave you a link for a quick pattern for these? I made one for each of my 3 daughters and 2 sons in law, along with my 2 grandsons and little granddaughter. Each one has symbols specific to their interests - I even had some bobby pin fabric (the peach colored one) for my daughter Hilary who has always been the Bobby Pin Queen.

I found an wonderful crochet pattern for Ninja Turtle hats for my grandsons. Yikes - way too big.

These hats turned out too large! I'll have to remake them. They fit my daughter Valery (29), so yes - these are too big for pre-school boys.

Daughter Hilary asked for a laptop bag. I even put pockets inside.

 And the inside?

And yes, I've been quilting. Have another project for an upcoming Keepsake Catalog issue. This uses the new Garden Collection by Windham. Here are a few of the blocks:

Paper piecing and easy raw edge applique
And for the quilt (before binding) . . .

And a companion pillow with flange:

So, yes, I sew just about every day. Of course, this is how I earn my living and as I always say: I'm only as good as the next quilt. And sewing things other than quilts is rather fun at times.

This morning I'm hemming some safari print fabric for quick table runners for my little granddaughter's 2nd birthday this afternoon. A wild animal theme. I will use long stitches in case I think of using them again in a quilt!

Comments

  1. Clever to use long stitches to hem the runners. I usually fold and press the selveges of 2 or 3 yard cuts to the middle of the wrong side and use as runners for dining table and buffet when the family is here for the holidays. Then just wash and replace in stash to use next time or in a sewing project. Thanks for a great finishing idea!

  2. Those quick hemmed animal print fabrics were perfect for the party. Makes me think of doing this again. Love your idea, EllenB, of making quick runners for holiday tables! Thanks!

  3. I love that little garden quilt. I'll be watching for that pattern. The Ninja hats are adorable. My grandsons would love them. Where can I get the crochet pattern? I must have missed the Card Holder pattern also. Where was I????? Lost in trying to finish the 2015 BOM quilt. It's done and I am hand quilting it. I did "give" it to my brother and his wife and then took it back. My quilting time is a bit on hold. I volunteer at the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Surf City NC. (Topsail Island). We have 80 sea turtles we are nursing back to health. Our days are packed. Not much spare time. Trying to stay above water. Always enjoy your blog and posts. susie

  4. Hi, Suzanne. I don't have your email so here's my reply for Ninja Turtle hats: Pattern by: Amy Ditmore
www.holyjeansnmyfavoritethings.com. Free and very cute. But they did come out large (my grandsons are 3 and 5).

Card holder pattern appears on another blog I follow: http://cadouri-din-inima.blogspot.ro/2015/12/card-holder-tutorial.html. I shared it early December, I think.

Take care of those turtles! And I'd love to see your quilt. I think you wrote to me about giving it to your brother for Christmas and then taking it back to quilt, but I don't have your email. You come in as a "no-reply comment" follower. Thanks for sharing!

  8. The ninja turtle hat is cute on your daughter, and it would keep her head warm in the cold months! I love your new quilt for Keepsake, very summery looking. You are definitely staying busy!

  9. Hi Debbie. Thank you for the response. My email is susiejandray@gmail.com. Yes, I was the one who gave your BOM 2015 to my brother. I will post pictures when its quilted. Sorry so late in getting back to you. I was working again, with the sea turtles. If you read anything about the cold stranding of these little ones off our coast and off the coast in New England. We are dealing with both. Yesterday was a 10 hour day. But well worth it. Check out our FB page, Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and rehab. Or on the web - seaturtlehospital.org.
