May Urn for the 2018 Tea Party Block of the Month

The 5th block in our 2018 Tea Party BOM is the Urn. Don't you love it in these organic blue and pink dots from Kaffe Fassett? And the green stripe from the vintage Lille Collection (also Kaffe). I made these 13+ years ago when I taught a class in Atlanta.

The blocks from that class are a variety of sizes. Why? I don't know. But this one is 9-1/2" square. You can use whatever size you wish. The template on the FREE pattern is full size, so it's up to you.

I have a Facebook group where you are welcome to come and share your blocks as you make them.

I added a little perch to elevate the green urn. And I only make raw edge machine appliqué. I have never liked hand appliqué, but many people do and you are welcome to use any technique you wish if you are following along with this series.

I decided to make another block using the Mimosa Collection by Windham. Let's see what I did.

Traced, cut out and ironed Urn template to right side of fabric that has fusible webbing on the wrong side. I use freezer paper as my "go to" template material.
Traced the urn pattern onto freezer paper and cut out
Cut out a second one in a green print

Remove the paper from the webbing.
Peeled the fusible webbing from wrong side of patch
Pulled out some threads that I think will work.
Auditioning threads for machine work
I always use scraps to audition my stitches and thread. This is one from my February Tea Cup blocks.

And now for my two urns appliqued to a 10-1/2" background square.

Hope you enjoyed seeing a few process shots of my blocks. The May Urn is FREE for the month of May; after that it isn't free anymore (but still available for a small charge on Craftsy).
