MAQ 2018 Summer Classes

Returning for my 8th year with Mid Appalachian Quilters Retreat at the beautiful Mt. St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, Maryland. The dates are July 13 - 15, 2018 (Thursday to Sunday)

Sunday, July 15: English Paper Piecing with Hexagons and Diamonds
CLASS IS FULL!

3 of the 7 stars for my Seven Sisters quilt (using only diamonds)

Here is one of your kits! 2" center hexagon will be fussy cut (by you) using various animals from the Wild Woods Collection by Windham. You will receive the fabrics (pre-cut) and papers to make the star (finishing fabrics are up to you at home)

Fussy cut Wild Woods animals will form the center

You will have one kit using a fussy cut motif from a Paula Nadelstern collection. It will use 1-3/4" papers (supplied) and have 6 companion fabrics (also supplied) to make a Grandmother's Flower Garden block.

  • What else will we be working on?
We will discuss how to make more stars for this Seven Sisters table topper. Student kits will have packs of 75 2" Diamonds so you can make LOTS of stars.
EPP Seven Sisters
  • More shapes, more designs!
1" Hexagons with 1" Jewels
And more diamonds mixed with jewels and a hexagon!
Star Bouquet Block using 3 different EPP shapes

  • What else can you do with those jewels?

  • We will have kits (packs of papers and some fabric) to make these. Please bring some colorful 2-1/2" strips to use with your sets of jewel papers. You will learn how to quickly cut your fabric for these:

  • Acrylic ruler with 60 degree line (if you have one). I will show you how to cut your own hexagons and diamonds.
  • Little binding clips (like those made by Clover, the kind you would use to secure binding when hand stitching). I will have some other clips, one for each student
