Day 3 From My Solids Vault and Free Pattern

98 Dancing Squares
All solids in the center with bright yellow rayon thread for machine applique stitching. Yes, I know there is a print in the border! But I started with only solids. I remember visiting G Street Fabrics in Rockville, Maryland and buying 1/2 yard cuts of a dozen or more of these solids. That was an extravagant purchase for me when my daughters were young. I quilted it myself on a Handi Quilter (one of the first ones on the market in the mid 1990s). This quilt was stolen (along with almost 3 dozen others) back in 2005. I have tried to reproduce it, but I didn't use solids. Here is a picture of the newer quilt:

  1. Gosh, I'm not sure which one I like best, Debby! I remember hearing about all your quilts that were stolen. At the time, I thought surely they would turn up - at least some of them, but I guess that's not likely now. I just hate unsolved mysteries, too. Re-making them is a good thing. It isn't replacement, because the new ones are different. Still a good thing.

  2. Each one is beautiful. I can't imagine the feeling you had to face when the quilts were stolen.

  3. Both quilts are beautiful. I am so sorry that you lost so many beautiful quilts. Makes me more determined to make my labels a part of the backing of my quilts and quilt those babies right into the quilt. May help, but maybe not.

  4. The one in solids is very striking, and the print one is very pretty. I'm so sorry that your quilts were stolen! I like to think that they eventually ended up in the arms of persons who were in real need of a warm hug! The theft was wrong, but maybe the final outcome was sincerely beneficial! Anyway, fabulous quilts! Oh and of course, another beautiful and free pattern to tuck away for later.

  6. I definitely like the solids better. I'm not a "solid" person but I think that solid sample really makes the quilt POP. I'm going to have to buy some "Kona" next time I'm shopping. It's too bad those quilts never showed up. What a loss.
