April is Still for Showers and FREE Pattern

My yard is coming up daffodils and forsythia. I love to see all that yellow (except on me - I cannot wear yellow; I'm a pink person). It reminds me of some items I've made using that sunny color. These daffodils are from my old house and they were growing wild.

Lovely Daffodils
I absolutely love the timeless combination of blue and yellow and I made this using one orphan block (the flower in the star center) and then sewed some simple cup mats and tea cozy using my own teapot appliqué. I have since given that ensemble away.

I used my same pattern for Windham Fabrics and you can have the tea cozy and tea pot appliqué FREE. The link for this FREE pattern to use any way you like is here: Tea Cozy and Tea Pot Appliqué. (You will also see other patterns at the Windham site that are awesome!)

I also remembered I had used my Pfaff embroidery machine many years ago to make a teapot with tea cup, but never did anything with it. So . . .

1. I found it in a box, pressed it, measured it and made a curved frame out of brown fabric.

2. Using fusible webbing and then zig zag stitching, I quickly stitched it over the teapot/cup.

3. Added simple yellow borders, layered it and quilted it and then and realized I DID NOT want to add binding!  So . . .

4. I pulled out my specialty rotary blade and pinked the outer edges. Do you like it?

Just so you can get the perspective, I also photographed it with a china tea cup:

So, if you love tea and are looking for a simple pattern for a cozy WITH a tea pot appliqué, go check out the FREE pattern at the Windham Fabrics site. And wherever you live, I hope the Spring flowers are blooming and giving you lots of visual pleasure.

  1. Hi Debby! We do not quite have flowers blooming yet in SE Wisconsin but the daffodils are up and should be open in a week or two. Thanks for the link to the free pattern. I still plan on making a tea-themed quilt for a coworker but in the meantime she might like a tea cozy! Happy Wednesday! ~smile~ Roseanne

  2. Thank you. That is a sweet pattern.
At the moment it is freezing rain/snow and cold here in Nova Scotia. So wanting spring to arrive.

  3. That's a great idea, and I just happen to have a pinking blade. Just have to love teapots in florals!
