Windham Wednesday with Pop Dots, Part 2

Last week I gave you a sneak peek of my quilt in progress using Pop Dots by Windham Fabrics.

On my way to a fun project with Pop Dots
I was sent this lovely fat quarter collection and my mind was spinning (like those melon wedges above).

16 fat quarters of Pop Dots
I have had my set of DWR templates for almost 10 years (and have been using this simplified shape for 20 years) and began drawing and cutting. The small center melon shape fits perfectly on a jelly roll strip (2-1/2"). Scroll down for a few projects made with this.

Double Wedding Ring template set (no longer available)

I am basing my quilt on something I did a few years ago for another fabric company. I backed 4 of the fabrics with fusible webbing and traced the larger template on the paper side.

Here is my modern version of the DWR using Pop Dots.

Modern DWR: 36" x 36"

This quilt is a variation of a quilt I made in 2012. I call it Double Wedding Ring Blossoms. This assembly is one of close to a dozen assemblies in my DWR pattern. (You can find it in my Etsy store.) When I cut the large melon shapes, the center cutaways were also added to the quilt. Waste nothing!

I created two projects with some Windham fabrics using just those little small melon cutaways. Want to see them? Of course!

Simple Flower
And one more, which was published in Modern Patchwork Magazine Spring 2015. This pattern is FREE with the purchase of my Double Wedding Ring pattern.

Modern Melons Table Topper: 17" x 17"

And one more pattern I created using Windham Fabrics is Pumpkin Seeds. The fabrics are from the Mimosa Collection from several years ago. It makes perfect use of those 5" charm squares you have oodles of! This is also called Orange Peel. I used the small melon cutaway in the template set. And, yes, my borders don't match!

Hope you enjoyed the show of my many quilts using this simple melon shape.
