Triplet Borders for 3 Quilts

I created a quilt for Benartex as a Sewcial Ambassador using their Modern Vintage: Treasured Collection. I call this Dancing with the Flowers and it appeared in their Fat Quarterly Magazine in April.

Dancing with the Flowers: 40" x 40"

I used a set of charm squares (5") for those rectangles in the center. The vertical rows are called Stacked Bricks - very traditional. I've never been a fan of orange, but I absolutely fell in love with these flowers on the blue background! The designer of this collection is Rachel Rossi.

I had more of that border fabric remaining and I realized that a scrappy birdhouse quilt top might be the perfect place to use it. These are birdhouses leftover from teaching some workshops over the years. And those hexagon shaped bird motifs just added to the charm. I had a lonely panel from another Benartex collection that begged to be in the center. What do you think?

I quilted this on my HandiQuilter Sweet 16 (sit down) and the stitch counter said: 19,124 stitches!!!

These birdhouse pattens are in my Cheeper by the Dozen pattern set in my Etsy store. Visit that link to see these birdhouses up close. (They're paper pieced)

And the back with some more charm squares to give me the width I needed to quilt it!

I was in the process of retiring one more workshop and put the parts together last week. This was my Big Block Lone Star class and the box with samples had the parts for THREE quilts - this is the first. I finished the center (29") and looked around for border fabrics. You guessed it - I still had some of the Modern Vintage prints left. And I used some of the leftover charms to give it some height for a lap quilt.

No y-seams in the construction, btw! Check it out in my Etsy store.

I quilted this on my HandiQuilter, too and it counted 19,269 stitches! Wow, right?!!

I have nothing left of this gorgeous collection. But I did squeeze 3 quilts from it, so that makes it extra special. I did have to do some crazy math on the last quilt to make sure I gave it balance with those charms at top and bottom. The center fabrics on the lone star are at least 10 years old, but now they're complete and happy to close this chapter in their lives.
