I received a small amount of a new collection of fabrics from Blank Quilting. These feature teapots from the personal collection of Diana Mancini, the Marketing Director for Blank. They are so beautiful and it's so much fun to see them in fabric. I took pictures of the companion fabrics yesterday and I wanted to get YOUR opinion of what sorts of things I should sew with them (yes, I can get more fabric!)
I want to appeal to the younger crowd, those who are new to sewing, don't have a lot of time to create things for their homes. I am thinking tea cozy (yawn?), table runner (what do you think?), kitchey things.

In the meantime, here is a redraft of a Teapot from the Kansas City Star newspaper, 1935. It's appliqué and would be delightful in any type of fabrics, vintage or modern. We still drink tea, mind you!

ReplyDeleteDebbie, I am a follower and I love your blog, such beautiful patterns. What I would sew with this pattern is a "Teapot Rug" (sorta like a Mug Rug) with matching coasters for your tea cups. Maybe on each corner of the Teapot Rug you can put little circle velcro's so that you can hang the coasters on it. This could double as a wall hanging. I love Kitchen things.

Wonderful fabric! I think it would be great for vintage blocks! But of course, very suitable for mug rugs, and a tea cosy with that fantastic focus fabric. How about kitchen accents for after Christmas, say pieced tea towel borders, narrow pieced curtain edging, a circular table topper?

ReplyDeleteI think it would be great to have a matched set of teapot shaped coasters, tea cozy, and oven mitt. Everyone needs dish towels, so a teapot shaped hanger for a towel would draw a lot of attention.

ReplyDeleteHow pretty! For a new sewer, or a non-sewer, this would be perfect for cloth napkins. Potholders would be a great and simple next step. I am a follower. :)
ReplyDeleteI would mix them in with other fabrics for a scrappy quilt. One with pieces big enough to see the teapots. I love scrappy quilts where you can look at them many times and discover fun & interesting fabrics each time.

ReplyDeleteReally cute fabric! I've been buying focus fabrics for awhile to use as the center of blocks. I guess I'd start with some tea cup rugs (mug rugs)and go from there with more kitchen pieces....wall hanging, runner, table cover, etc.

ReplyDeleteI thought of a Victorian tea party. And placemats (although they would not have had them during the Victorian age)with small fussy cuts of the teapots along an edge. Potholders for the teapots at the party. And some napkins from the companion fabrics.

I would make an apron, a pot holder, a large square center for on my table then I would make a plate taker. You know when you want to take your plate with you and sit in the chair, but the plate is hot.. we do this at our house LOL. Bigger than a pot holder, very necessary :)

Love the teapot fabric! I'd make crazy quilt blocks with the teapots 'fussy' cut for centers. In fact, I need to find the fabric to do just that! Og course I'm a follower!

If you are talking teaching REALLY beginning sewists and want kitcheny things, how about teaching them how to measure an appliance and make a quilted cover-up for it. That might not be as boring as a tea cosy. I would think table runners and placemats would be great for those teapots. I can't wait to get my hands on some of those little fabrics. I want to use that teapot block from the 100 blocks issue 6...

Here are some ideas
Last year for Christmas I made tea wallets out of a very similar fabric.
I also used a tea fabric to create interest on dish towels. I just add a border of the fabric.
And I have made tea cup and tea mug quilts.
My daughter's friends love the aprons I make them. (The 31 year old)
And little bags for purses, phones and cameras are super popular with my daughters' friends. (31 and 24)
Food for thought!
I think a table runner and placemats would be great. Maybe even a tea cosy!

I think a tea cozy out of that fabric would be great, but then, I am not a young, new sewer! I think that young people are "tea bag in the cup" kind of folks, not tea coziers. So, I'd suggest a hot pad or pot holders.

Oh, so cute. I think these would make charming pillowcases--probably because I'm making pillowcases right now. :) A bigger version of a mug rug would be nice, or a tea pot cozy.
