My Shamrock Quilt
Irish Cross and Chain is the name of the quilt. It is featured in my Quilter's Block a Day Calendar (now out of print, but for sale in my Etsy store on CD). I show this every year in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. It's the wearin' of the green!

Here is a set of squares I cut for another project. You can see how these glow!

Here are the two 10" blocks used in my quilt.
Double Irish Cross (10") is the March 17 block (for St. Patrick's Day, right?) I raw edge appliquéd the hearts, but they could just as easily be done by hand. I first stitched the rotary cut cream and green squares and rectangles and then put the four hearts over top.

Double Irish Patches (10") is the March 18 block. Each of those squares finishes to 2". When the two blocks are put together they form a Double Irish Chain! It is a traditional/vintage block that's been around for well over a century.

I hope you will look in your stash for some green fabrics and give a thought to making a Double Irish Chain quilt.
Happy St. Patrick's Day to you (on Wednesday, the 17th)!
Hi Debby! This is a very cute shamrock quilt. What strikes me most is that the shamrock leaves are heart-shaped. What a fun happenstance. ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteHi, Roseanne. Yes, isn't that so cute with the hearts? And the green fabric is perfect for these. Thanks for stopping by. Always glad to hear from you!
