As I said on Monday, I am destashing my sets of blocks and even quilt tops. I have 14 string pieced blocks made using my leftover Kaffe Fassett fabrics. They measure 9" x 12" (and finish to 8-1/2" x 11-1/2"). That's because I used 9" x 12" newsprint from a kid's doodle pad bought from the Dollar Store!

14 String Pieced Blocks |
There are 7 blocks with strips going from top left to bottom right and 7 blocks with strips going from top right to bottom left. This way they will "zig and zag" across the face of the quilt.

Rectangles of paper (I'm using 9" x 12" paper for these samples) |
I showed these steps a few years ago:

|
2nd strip aligned and pinned. |
Now it's time to sew. 1/4", but you don't have to agonize about this. This will be close to an improvisational quilt.
|
Stitch |
Press open and keep adding strips until the surface of the paper is covered. You stitch and flip, going from one side to the other. Finish those corners with a rough cut triangle.
|
Entire paper is stitched |
Now to trim
|
Trim away excess beyond paper on all 4 sides. |
And how does this look from the front? Lovely, huh?
|
First block trimmed |
And the second block? Notice that the diagonal in the first block goes from top left to bottom right; the diagonal in second block goes from top right to bottom left.
|
Two blocks side by side |
And four blocks together:

And here is what the back of a block looks like with paper removed.

And how do 8 blocks look? I love these!

Here are the 14 blocks I finished PLUS 3 bags stuffed full of Kaffe Fassett scraps, enough to make a few dozen more blocks! They sold on Etsy within a hour of me posting this!

Many of the scraps are "vintage" Kaffe prints (no longer available). But they were tired of living in a box under my spare bed!
