Independence Day FREE Patterns

Tomorrow in America we celebrate our independence from an oppressive king. We celebrate with fireworks, picnics, lots of good food, family and fun.

You may have seen this quilt before, but I want to share it again. It is SO America with our flag represented in fabrics. I created this in 2008. It was a collaboration with Leslie Sonkin, who worked for Windham Fabrics at the time. I still have some of the fabrics and may just make it again!

American Beauty Quilt by Leslie Sonkin and Debby Kratovil

The flag quilt above is a FREE pattern from Windham FabricsAmerican Beauty Quilt - just click the link and you will get to the download (pdf).

Did you see my American Eagle quilt made for my grandson Javi for his 7th birthday last week? It is a remake of another coverlet quilt. And, it's also a FREE pattern!

Regal Eagle quilt using reproduction coverlets

Here is the center block (24" x 24"). I was auditioning the stars. The background is pieced. The templates for the eagle are full size and you print and tape together to make this big guy!

Here is how it looked the first time around. My nephew saw a photo of it and expressed interest. Of course! It was his immediately. He loves it.

Hope your day and week are filled with many happy things!

  1. Oh, I missed this somehow! Thank you so much for both free patterns. I LOVE making patriotic quilts and donate many. That is a terrific eagle pattern.

  2. Yes, that's an awesome eagle that appeared at least 20 years ago in one of our magazines. A perfect Quilt of Valor pattern or for anyone who enjoys the red, white and blue!
