Windham Wednesdays with Bella
As I mentioned on Monday, if I love the prints in a particular collection I will sew until I have nothing left! That was the case with Windham's Bella by Lotta Jansdotter (2012). Look at these fun prints!

These modern, free-form images were a very new concept to me in 2012. No matter where you cut, you were slicing off some part of a motif! It was a little scary.
The first thing I created was a house. I built it from the windows outward! I just pieced until I was done. I had been hoping that Modern Patchwork Magazine (now out of print) would pick it up. Very modern looking, right? But I got pink slipped. I was shocked until I realized that it wasn't that they didn't like it - they wouldn't be able to pattern it! Too improv.

Then I made some trivets for my daughter. I used strips and cut them using my 60 degree triangle ruler. I made 4 separate trivets, lined them and then zigzag stitched them together!

Then I decided to make a bunch of 2" English Paper Pieced hexagons. (These are really from 2012, but the photo date is wrong).
2" EPP hexagons |
I put them together into my Zig and Zag of Hexies table runner. Very popular pattern in my Etsy shop.

I had a few orphan blocks from the hexagon trivets and turned them into something for my daughter for Christmas last year. I even had some of the bird fabrics that made a simple block, too.

And from the hexagons:

Then, because I had some leftover 2" EPP hexagons, I gave it a fun border! It finishes at 56" x 56" is a perfect size for a lap quilt. Just scraps of scraps left now!

I really like the strings of hexies on my borders. Will probably do again. Hope I've inspired you to play more with your own fabrics. Thanks for stopping by.

That little birdie print is so cute!
ReplyDeleteAlways inspired by your posts, and how you use fabric. I remember that line, and how pretty it was. I'm not surprised you used every single scrap piece!
