It's Saturday where I live and I have just a few more ideas for you. Have you ever considered the Pentagon shape? It's based on a 72 degree angle (at each corner). The inside allows for a 5-Pointed Star to fit in very nicely! Here's what I mean: Sunburst Pentagon Wreath Let's look at the Five Pointed Star. I stitched it using Dupioni silk. You can see several 72 degree 2" diamonds scattered on the floor in front of my model. Here is the star up close: 5-Pointed Star made from silk And the back before I removed the papers. I will say it again and again: 1/4" seams are just NOT enough. I always add 3/8". And I don't use glue. And I don't stitch THROUGH the papers. Today is Friday and I want to show a few steps and tips for fussy cutting a motif. Fussy cutting is centering a design within the confines of the patch size. Let's see a few examples: First is my Wild Woods Fox in the center of a star. I turned it into a table mat (tho it's a wall quilt here with my Little Buddy.) Fussy Cutting a motif for a 2" hexagon The Fox and Duck are to be captured in a 2" hexagon, so the center of that freezer paper window on the Duck is the size of the 2" hexagon paper. 3/8" added around for wraparound seams. Cut out the fabric hexagon and EPP to a 2" paper! The triangles (blue) are 2" size. The diamonds (orange) are 2" size. Finished Fox topper And some little flower motifs become part of several blocks. Happy Thursday to you! More hexagons and variations made with them. Today we will focus on strings of hexagons. Yes, we will. Some are wreaths as are shown here with my trusty Little Buddy model. This is NOT attached to the green wood grain background fabric yet. I stitched the center of the wreath to the fox fabric and then trimmed away excess. Now I stitched around the outside of the wreath. I used a short zigzag machine stitch and monofilament thread in the top and cream in the bobbin. It's Wednesday where I live (Virginia, USA) and we are on Day Two of EPP Week (even tho I gave you a sneak peek at some EPP blocks made with Amanda Murphy's First Frost fabric). Here is my faithful model again showing you the blocks: Modeling my Star Bouquet Block and Jewel Hearts Let's see how I put these together. The Star Bouquet in this post was made with: One 1" hexagon Six 1" jewels Six 2" diamonds I cut the fabric for both the diamonds and jewels from 2-1/2" strips. (You saw how I cut using the 60 degree angle on my ruler yesterday).
