Chickadees in the Trees Pattern

Image
I hope you enjoyed the Benartex Christmas in July webinar today. If you missed it (and my feature of this quilt), check out their Facebook page and their YouTube Channel . Chickadees in the Trees: 50" x 50" using Jackie Robinson's " A Winter's Day" Collection Chickadees in the Trees: 50" x 50" You must own a copy of my Quilter's New Perpetual Block a Day Calendar in order to get the patterns for the 3 blocks used in this quilt (2 trees and the center Star). Check your local quilt shop first. Then check Amazon. ****Fabric Requirements, Cutting and Assembly can be found here: Chickadees in the Trees . Here's a look at the fabrics I used from the Winter's Day Collection and the Equinox Bronze. Here is the Assembly Diagram (which is also in the 3 page pattern link above). Of course, you can make this in any fabrics you wish. But I think you'll love seeing Jackie's fabrics at the Benartex web site - check it out !

Home Circle Quilt Finished

Image
I love inspiration from vintage blocks. Home Circle is a perfect pattern for many fabrics. I like good contrast and  that's what is happening in this orange quilt. Yes! I said orange! I had this quilted last week and just put the binding on yesterday. Blocks are 15" x 15". This is going to our local guild's charity outreach (probably an adult who doesn't mind orange). Home Circle : 45" x 52" Or maybe I should view it this way: Home Circle turned 1/4 Here is another version I've made (and have given away). This uses a gorgeous "marble" group by Michael Miller. Home Circle with 7 blocks: 60" x 60" Here it is lying flat so you can see all the blocks and sashings. Notice the top and bottom vertical strips. This makes for a "square" quilt because those strips are 1/2 the width of the blocks (2 half strips per row make for another "block.") Home Circle with borders And one made digitally using some daisy themed pri...

Christmas in July: Day Two

Image
Thanks for stopping back in! I have more with that Festive Season collection. Remember that group of half hexagons? I used them to make a strippy half-hexagon braid quilt, alternating with more of those cardinal panels. Had to get creative with the borders. It works, I think. Half Hexagon Braid with Cardinal panels: 50" x 50" It is still hanging in my closet awaiting the quilting. I hope to take it out, find a backing and finish it before Christmas. Then, I will give it to a friend or relative who is looking for a seasonal lap quilt. You can find my easy Half Hexagon Braid pattern  in my Etsy store. Then I took one of those fussy cut cardinals and half hexagons and created a large table topper. The outside patches are elongated half-hexagons. I added the green 30 degree setting triangles to "square" it up and quilted it with gold metallic thread. (Hard to see here) I took some scraps and photo window cards and created some sweet cards. What do you think? Photo wind...

When You Don't Have Enough Blocks

Image
It happens all the time (to me). I do not typically "count the cost" before I jump in and start sewing with a quilt in mind. Then I run out of fabric to finish the number of blocks I need, say, for a 3 x 3 block quilt. That's what happened here in my Mistletoe Shark's Teeth quilt. Under the Mistletoe: 10" blocks; 38" x 38" quilt The fabrics are from Benartex, 2016. I made several cute items for my grandkids and they loved them.  Mistletoe postcards And a vest or two: Kid's vest I had a few scraps left over and proceeded to make some paper pieced Shark's Teeth blocks. Mistletoe fabrics from Benartex I used 4 different light background prints and some red, green and yellow fabrics for the spiky points. I had to get creative with that bottom center block because that's ALL I had. And I still only got 7 blocks - 7 blocks! Here's a photo of the 4 units after I removed the foundation paper. 4 parts of a 10" Shark's Teeth block I pul...

Michael Miller Mondays with Home Circle

Image
It's finally finished. Actually, it was finished a year ago but it hung in a Virginia quilt shop to entice folks to buy some of the gorgeous Michael Miller Marble fabrics . This 7 block quilt uses the Home Circle block in a nice, large 15" size! Home Circle : 60" x 60" What? You never knew you could make a quilt with 7 blocks? I have made several and it's not hard. First, let's look at those blocks from several years ago. I used 3 colors of Marble in each one; my background solid is Kona Snow. I had a photo heavy blog post about the process in these. Four of my 7 Home Circle blocks - read the blog post I sent the quilt center to the Sewlovelee quilt shop  (Irvington, VA) where the owner, Lee, picked out more Marble fabrics for the borders and backing and then she quilted it. When you're this sassy, you don't want to go live in my closet - you want to strut your colors! So, she stayed in the shop for a year and just returned this past Friday. (She...
