Elizabeth C. of Massachusetts won the fat quarter bundle of these fabrics. Thanks to everyone who shared such special memories of your treasured Christmas decorations!
Yep, today is my day to reveal my holiday project. Never mind that it's the middle of summer, we are all sweating like a dripping Popsicle! I love these novelty prints and, of course, making something for my little grandsons was upmost in my mind.
First, I AM NOT CONFUSED. I know this is NOT the Hexie Hop, but I've been sewing with hexies all summer and they just happened to appear in this Ho Ho Ho Hop. (Come back August 20th for 8 days of awesome hexie projects with 75+ bloggers!)
One center hexie (already basted) surrounded by 6 fussy cut robins (with pins holding the fabric to the hexagon paper).
Fussy cut center hexie (2") surrounded with fussy cut robins. Cute, huh? |
Getting ready to add the last hexie. All done with the English Paper Piecing method |
Auditioning fabric. I like this snowflake print! |
Added a hexie to each side and then appliqued the whole thing to a large rectangle |
So, what do they look like, huh?
Over-sized place mat with our favorite Frosty the Snowman night light |
The winter scene behind that place mat is used for the backing on the place mats. I know my little grandsons will be happy using either side, don't you?
Different fussy cut center snowman for this hexie |
What's my giveaway?
A bundle of 4 fat quarters from this "Let it Snow" Collection |
Until then, go see what my other fellow bloggers have to show you today!

Firstly I love the hexie placemats! My favourite decoration or should I say decorations are the ones my kids made when they were at school. I put them out each year on a little old plastic tree and when they have kids of their own I will give them back so they can start their own tradition! My boys are embarrassed by them!

ReplyDeleteI have a special angel that a very dear friend gave me. He has passed away and that make the angel all the more precious. I feel like part of him is with us at Christmas every time I see the angel. I miss my dear friend!
ReplyDeleteI have Christmas tree ornaments from my mother and my mother-in-law, being smart enough to grab them up as a newlywed 43 yrs ago. My favorite one has always been mine. My grandmother gave my mother a silver bell the year I was born. Turns out, many years later, it also is glass.
ReplyDeleteMy grandsons would love those too Debby and I may just try pinking my next ones too - love that look! My favorite decoration is a nativity set my husband gave me many, many years ago. blessings, marlene

ReplyDeleteSweet project! I love the little handmade things I've gathered over the years, like the childhood photo ornaments from my children when they were in elementary school, and wreath of handprints made by my grandchildren. Happy memories! :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas decorations are my collection of nativity sets. I have picked some of them up on our travels.
ReplyDeleteThat would be one very cherry table on Christmas morning using either side of those lovely mats, you did plan on making one for each member of the family, right?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous hexie project. My favourite is Christmas bunting which includes my grand children's handprints.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great placemat! The hexies are perfect with the little snowman in the center.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas decoration is a nativity scene from the hills of Mexico. It is hand formed out of natural clay and left unpainted. It still has the impression of the artist's fingerprints in places on the clay. One of the animals around the scene is a llama, something very familiar to the artist. I consider it a treasure and I've had it for over 30 years.
I have a vignette of 30 vintage tree toppers set on brass candlesticks with white lights and greenery around the base. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite decorations are still the box of a dozen shiny blue ornaments that my husband and I put glue and glitter our first Christmas together ('77). That's all we could afford to decorate the tree that we had cut down in the forest. Egads - sounds like I walked out of Little House on the Prairie. But true story, lol!
ReplyDeleteI melted when I saw hexies... Hugs
ReplyDeleteI love hexies too and I love your placemats! Great idea. My favorite decoration is a braided wreath that my grandmother made many years ago. I put it up every Christmas. I don't put up a tree anymore but I will always have that wreath. I think I just may be making placemats for two special little girls this year. Thanks for sharing.

My favorite decoration is my Nativity scene. It is not an expensive, fancy one but it was one of my first Christmas decoration that I bought when we were first married. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite decoration for Christmas is my advent wreath. I use fresh greenery and it makes me happy when I light the candle.
ReplyDeleteI have only 1 ornament left of my moms.....and 2 years ago I found it broken..... the Angel with angel hair came out of the ornament and the hanger fell off....so I glued the angel back and I put it in a holder and set it in a special place.....
ReplyDeleteLove your hexi placemats. Adorable fabric.

Mom and dad have promised me that when they are gone (hopefully not for a VERY long time) the nativity set will be mine. It is so full of wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteMy Santa Claus collection is my favorite especially my Santa on a Cycle. Every time I take it out I think of my brother on his cycle - Santa with a braid and brown beard. Oh, how I miss his jolly laugh.
ReplyDeleteFavorite decoration is a tole painted tray with three laughing mice sledding on a leaf. It makes me smile every year when I bring it out.

Hi! What neat Christmas projects!
ReplyDeleteOur nativity set is special!
Thanks for sharing!
msstitcher1948@yahoo.com
Those Hexies are so cute! My favorite decoration would be my Christmas quilts and table toppers!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas decoration is what I call my Scottie Dog Christmas wall hanging. Before I even knew that I would become a quilter my dear sister in law, Sandy, knew that she would make a quilter out of me, and I returned home from a visit with a case full of fabric, rulers and patterns, including a Christmas Tree panel with Scottie dogs playing under the tree around the presents. Since we have a wonderful Scottie named Mollie, this was exactly the hook I needed to get me started, but I didn't think I was good enough to make it right away. So almost three years later I made the wall hanging and it is now a fixture in our Christmas decorating! Thank you for letting me tell the story and thank you to Sandy for starting me on a marvellous journey.
ReplyDeleteHi Debby! My favorite Christmas decoration is our 3 foot tree. We have a small house, so our tree commandeers the dining room table for the month of December, but it's centralized and lights up most of our house, it's so beautiful. And then we have a lot of homemade tree decorations, and lots of memories with them. Thank you for the opportunity at the fabric, love it! And thank you for the Lone Star below, I'm saving it to my computer for future reference.

I would have to say my Christmas decorations that go on the tree. We don't have any glass ornaments all ornaments are characters and the kids love to see the tree. We add at least one or two new ones every year and being married 43 years you can imagine that our tree is heavily decorated. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite decoration is those tiny white lights. I call them 'fairy lights' and I want some in the back yard but hubby says no---too tacky! But he is kind enough to put them up for me at Christmas so at least I get to enjoy them in December...sigh...I love hexies too and I can see why you couldn't resist. I am going to try my hand at some large ones and see how that goes...I thought maybe sunflowers?
ReplyDeleteI have a new favorite.... I made this July a Bell Ringer Old World Santa wall hanging....my first big applique project.

I love the place mats and thanks for the tutorial. What a great idea to pink instead of using a binding. I don't like to do binding and yet it is part of the project. My favorite decoration is a black metal reindeer and sleigh combo that you put a candle in the reindeer. My mother bought it somewhere and we had it as children and it was always on the mantel at Christmas. I loved it because we always had a coal fire in the fireplace under the mantel. It was so homey. I don't have a mantel and I still love that heirloom.
ReplyDeleteI have some ornaments that I bought while on a vacation to Az. with my late husband. I teased him about the western themed ornaments but we love them!
ReplyDeletehulseybg at gmail dot com
A big Christmas Tree with unique ornaments, that have been handed down through the family.
ReplyDeleteI have a Hallmark candle spelling JOY with the O as a wreath given to me by my mother about 40 years ago. I have never lit it and display it every Christmas. Since my name is Joye (with an e) I have a lot of JOY related ornaments and decorations but that old candle is my favorite. A close second is a plump snowman candle that I bought in Gatlinburg TN on our honeymoon 35 years old. He has never been lit, either, and he stays out during the holiday season. Thanks!
ReplyDeletei have quilted for forty years and never made a holiday quilt, but after seeing your hexies, i want to make one in the worse kind of way. so that is my new faborite christmas decoration. babscorbitt@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteWe have a hand-made wooden nativity set that I have had for over 30 years. The angel has lots of tooth marks on it. lol.. the "kids" all fight over it as well. Thanks so much for sharing
ReplyDeleteHi Debby. I love how you fussy cut your hexies to get the little snowman in the center. I know your grandson will really love the placemat. They will look so cute on the table. Great job.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite decoration is a log that my best friend decorated with ribbon, pine cones and flowers and it looks absolutely beautiful. She calls it the Yule Tide log. She has passed away now so it means a lot to me. Thanks for the giveaway.

ReplyDeleteThe placemats are adorable. My favorite decoration is the tree skirt I made so many years ago. I'm almost done with a large lap quilt that will be my new favorite. I love decorating for the holidays!! I do need new place mats, though. Great idea!
ReplyDeleteSo adorable these place mats. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteLove the hexes! T
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas decoration is an animated Santa that we bought about 25 years ago. He stands on the floor and is about 3 feet tall. His hands (one holds a lighted candle and the other a bag of presents) move back and forth. His suit, hat, and bag are made of velvet and he has the cutest pair of glasses. After all these years he still works great and I really love bringing him out every year. Thank you! anglanouette at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteI think you must be a the queen of hexies then, Debby since you are cheerleading that hop soon enough. (I'm still cutting) Love the placemats!
ReplyDeleteIt is NOT Christmas around here unless the nativity set my mom made back her in her ceramic days (with chalks) goes up. Even on years when I don't feel much like decorating, that goes up. Flat decorating surfaces are at a premium around here.
I love those placemats! You are going to have one festive table. My favorite decorations are all the homemade ornaments my kids made throughout their school years. They are all so cheesy but yet so cool.
ReplyDeleteThose placemats are beautiful! My favorite decoration is the countdown to Christmas mini that I made one year. It was a lot of work but I really like it.
ReplyDeleteDebby ~ That is a great idea to use the hexies to make placemats. I love it. You always have such great ideas so really, it doesn't surprise me that I would love what you did for the blog hop.
ReplyDeleteI know this sounds strange, but I still am loving my new Christmas tree hubby surprised me with about 3 yrs ago now. We were driving past a store and I saw it in the window and made him turn around and drive past there again. I was THRILLED to see a purple Christmas tree and said I WANT THAT! Of course, he rolled his eyes because he hears me say 'I want that' about a million times a week. But he did not ignore me because when he got paid his bonus a week or so later we went for a drive and he drove there and went inside telling me he had to get a book he had ordered. (it was a Barnes and Noble bookstore) I chose to stay in the car because I was hurting after walking around another store earlier. He came walking out of the store with this huge grin on his face holding a huge box. He bought THAT tree for me. He was upset that they did not have any more in stock so he was able to buy the one in the window. Heck, I was thrilled and could have cared less that it was the window display. I still am like a little kid when it's close to the day we can set up my tree. :) I was the person that said she would never, ever in a million years get a fake tree but getting older changes ones mind sometimes and I love my tree.
BTW ~ Is it time to get my tree out yet? It's Christmas in July - well now August, right? LOL
What great looking placemats! I love the fussy cutting... and pinking the edges for a quick finish - huh, this could come in handy some day. My favorite Christmas decoration is a Musical Santa Claus that sits at the edge of the mantel. I got it when my first son was only 3 (he is 24 now)... My younger boys love him, too!

Very nice. Love the colours and thanks for having a give away.
ReplyDeleteCute placemats. I love my nativity set.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite decoration is the snowmen my Grandmother made for me. I love them. The were crocheted and there is a father, mother, and child. They go up on my mantle every year. They remind me of her each year and they are my favorite.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite decoration is the original 6' aluminum pompom Christmas Tree with color wheel that my mother put up in the 60's. I also have the original decorations she used. Every time I put it up I'm reminded of her.
ReplyDeleteYour hexie placemats are great. My favorite decoration is an angel tree topper my parents bought when they were first married in 1955. When mom is gone, there will be several of us wanting it for our own.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the Christmas tree! I love your hexies!
ReplyDeleteThat's a wonderful giveaway, Debby. One of my favorite Christmas decorations is a treetop angel my sister made for me about 20 years ago. I love getting her out of her box and my adult children still fight over whose year it is to put her atop the tree.
ReplyDeleteThis is really hard, but I guess my favorite decoration is the tree and all the decorations that go on it. We have bought many of the ornaments on our travels, and they bring back many memories. Nancy: rangerer@sbcglobal.net
ReplyDeleteThose hexie placemats are adorable especially with the fussy cute sonowmen in the center - so cute! I love my nativity scene the family has all the way from Rwanda - beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI know that ther's a song with lyrics about a "red, red robin..."
ReplyDeleteBUT... I do think that those are cardinals (boy variety) on your fabric. I've been looking at hexies so much these past few weeks for the mini Christmas tree skirt that I'm making, that I'm surprised that I haven't referred to my cat as a hedgehog my eyes are so crossed. We're all going blind with these blasted little things! LOL
My favorite Christmas decoration is a set of 4 24" Victorian era, ceramic carolers I made about 25 years ago while teaching ceramics. In addition to the carolers, the set includes a sled, a lamppost that is electrically wired, a dog and a cat.
ReplyDeleteLove the Hexie Placemats but my most favorite Christmas pattern to make and I make it many time for gifts and every one loves it, I made a table cloth from a pattern you provided many moons ago. You used Christmas fussy cuts and made a pineapple themed throw it was so easy and turned out so beautifully. My favorite decoration is the Nativity Set which has been used since my son was born.
ReplyDeleteYour hexie snowmen placemats are too cute. Yes, I can see children enjoying them while they eat. I have my mother's large manger and my collection of small mangers that always come out for Christmas. Love them.
ReplyDeleteWonderful Christmas hexies!! I love them.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Christmas decoration is my collection of palstic candy holders from the 1940's & 50's.
Cheers

I love your hexagon snowmen! I'll have to think about that after I finish the redwork embroidery ones. My favorite holiday decoration is the big wooden letters that spell NOEL that a friend of of mine made for me to hang on the house. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteHiya!!! LOVE, love, love those placemats!!! Your hexie work is great. My favorite decoration has to be the tree and all of its ornaments. I use an eclectic collection of ornaments, and each one has special meanings. A time for remembering and loving as I decorate. Thanks for sharing and for having the giveaway. Merry Christmas, blessed be, hugs!!! Pam

Love the hexies! My favorite decorations are the tree decorations my children made when they were little. I still cherish them and now look forward to receiving some new ones from the next generation, my grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteReally nice placemats! I love them! My favorite Christmas decoration is my nativity set. I got it at a Senior Citizen craft sale years ago. It is only 4 pieces: Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus and an Angel. It is white but has a luminescent coating. It's out each year. (this is not to say I don't love the ones my kids made, and my mother made... but...I had to pick one!) Well, off to visit more blogs! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI love your placemats. Snowmen are my favorite decoration. I leave them out from Nov to Feb.
ReplyDeleteGreat hexies and placemat. My favorite Christmas decoration is a snowman that I made out of warm and natural, he is stuffed.
ReplyDeleteCute hexies. My favorite decoration is my Christmas village made out of bird houses.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your sweet projects and the chance to win. I enjoy putting out new and old Christmas crafts, wall hangings, ornaments, quilts etc. I love seeing the grandchildren get excited around all things Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI have a Christmas quilt that I made that is my favorite. It is a panel of Scotties around a Christmas tree. I embellished the packages, tree and the Scotties with charms and beads. It graces the chair in my office during the Christmas season!
ReplyDeleteSandy A
Love the placemats!! So many fabric combinations to be used for everyone on my list! My favorite decoration is a framed collage of each of my family members sitting on Santa's lap and CRYING when they were little. My husband's and my pictures are from the 50's and then we caught each of our three daughters with frowns and/or tears. At first it wasn't planned until by the third daughter I realized we had a theme going!! Then I framed them together and each year someone new comments and laughs at the framed pic!!!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty placemats! I've always loved snowmen, however, my favorite Christmas decoration is my tree. I use gold, glass, and silver ornaments. It is truly beautiful when I finish.
ReplyDeleteLove your hexies placemats. It is great that you still have things from years ago.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite decoration is my little Christmas tree that looks like something from a Charlie Brown scene but I love decorating it with family photos. We look at the photos at Christmas and reminisce and laugh!!

I love your hexies! I jumped on the hexie bandwagon back in April after Paducah.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up (and still) we had a Nativity set for as long as I can remember. My brother-in-law made a creche for my Mother to use. She still puts the set out each Christmas. I am 64 and I think it has been used every year of my life!
Your placemat is lovely. I love all your hexagons. My favourite decorations are the ones my three boys made when they were very young.
ReplyDeleteLove your hexies! My favorite decoration is a small Christmas tree that was my mom's. It's covered with her handcrafted ornaments.
ReplyDeletenicolesender(at)yahoo(dot)com

ReplyDeleteAbsolutely wonderful. The hexies look splendid on the placemats. I love that you can use both sides - 2 for the price of one! lol
ReplyDeleteFavorite decoration...If you could see my BOXES of Christmas decorations, you would understand when I say they are ALL my favorites. I think I need to downsize but maybe I'll wait just another year...procrastinating is one of my talents!! I do have a glass ornament my dad bought as a teen - in the 1920s - it always hangs on the tree.
Awe those are cute! I think the nativity would be my favorite :)
ReplyDeleteVery cool placemats. I love the fussy cutting you did. My favorite decoration(s) are the ones handmade by me and my family when I was younger.
ReplyDeleteYour projects are all lovely and I love hexies I just have not gotten around to trying the yet.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite Christmas thing is a quilted table topper a friend and I made together. It looks beautiful on my dining room table.
Fussy cut hexies look like so much fun to play with. My favorite decoration is the tree with all my kids ornaments from different ages.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet tabletopper. Love hexies and birdies....those little birds are cardinals. Thanks for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteI love your placemats - such a cute idea! I'm now wondering if I already have some fabric that could be showcased this way!
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed all your Christmas photos. Thanks. I like to decorate with snowmen, Christmas quilt, and Holly table topper.
ReplyDeleteThe hexies are so fun and will be enjoyed often as placemats! My favorite decoration is a mini-quilt with a mitten for each member of the family...at the time it was made anyway! Thanks for sharing your projects!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite are the photo ornaments of my children each year. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYour placemat is wonderful! I love snowmen, but my favorite decoration is my porcelain nativity set. Thanks for the inspiration and the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteCute placemats...love the fussy cut hexagons! I'm a snowman collector so I do decorate with them quite a bit but also love other Christmas decorations like Nativity sets. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite decoration is the Christmas tree! We always get the largest one that our living room can hold. All the ornaments have memories attached of favorite people or places. It glows like a giant jewel in the heart of our home.
ReplyDeleteI love EPP and hexes in particular so your placemat is super cool in my eyes. My favorite Christmas decoration is a stack of Christmas stories that I put on our coffee table December 1st. They range from the Nativity story, Miracle of 34th Street to books published based on screenplays our family has seen. It is always a pleasure to visit those books every December. When my children come home they often contribute a book that they feel should be part of our collection. They have never been wrong. That stack is becoming a library.
ReplyDeleteGreat placemats, can't wait to see what you make for the actually hexie hop. I have a very small nativity scene that my mom gave to me when I first moved out of the house and I mean small, small small, I am surprised I have not lost it with all of the moving but I still pull it out every Christmas.
