Quiltmaker 100 Blocks and a Giveaway

The Gretchen Block as seen in Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, Volume 9
Even after all these years (22) of having my quilts published, it is still a treat to see them in print. I am especially happy to have one of my favorite magazines feature one of my blocks. This is the fourth time I've had this privilege and it still makes me smile!

Follow the 100 Blocks Blog Tour daily April 28 - May 2, 2014 at The Quiltmaker Blog Quilty Pleasures for inspiration, ideas and giveaways galore! They have prizes (did I say that?)

Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Volume 9 is  the newest issue of this fabulous magazine. Honestly, I think a magazine is the most bang for the quilting buck around. All the blocks in this magazine finish to 12" so the possibilities are endless.

Many thanks to June Dudley, Kelly Eisinger, Carolyn Beam, Diane Harris and the rest of the Quiltmaker staff for making each issue somehow better than the last. Kudos to you all!
First, let me show you the fabrics I used. The Gazebo Collection by Windham Fabrics was perfect for this. (This collection is no longer current.)
The Gazebo Collection by Windham Fabrics
I selected four fabrics and used a traditional pattern that I made into a quick technique without the "funky" templates typically needed for those odd shaped patches. The size designated was 12. This Gretchen pattern can be made into any size because it uses two different triangles and some quick rotary cutting tricks.

I've made a few quilts using this pattern:

Published in 2006; gifted in 2007 to a neighbor undergoing cancer treatment
The quilt  below was gifted to my son in law Dani's sister and new husband - Spaniards who live in Mexico. They hung it on their bedroom wall the first day they got back home! Made me feel so good!

Don't you just love the positive-negative movement of this block?
Follow the 100 Blocks Blog Tour daily April 28 - May 2, 2014 at The Quiltmaker Blog Quilty Pleasures for inspiration, ideas and giveaways galore (that's another way to say THEY HAVE PRIZES).  I donated copies of my 2 books and Block a Day calendar CD.  But I'm also going to give away a few myself right here. What are they?

  1. Thanks for the generous giveaway, Debby. I like a variety of blocks. I do more piecing and I do enjoy applique and paper piecing. The latter two are not as relaxing for me - probably because I don't have as much experience with them.

  7. I agree with you, Debby, about the 100 Blocks issues being a great resource--lots of bang for the buck. I recently made a sampler quilt, and pored over my back issues to find blocks. The hard part wasn't finding great blocks to use, it was narrowing down all the blocks I loved.

I'm a machine piecer but I'm going to give paper piecing a go.

    ReplyDelete
  8. So glad you've contributed another amazing block! I love paper piecing for smaller projects, but my favorite way to make blocks is plain old machine piecing. eamylove@aol.com

  164. You are SO right! I'm a follower and love your blog! I was disappointed your class in MA was full before I made it to the sign up :( I enjoy all types of quilting....depends on my mood and the project at hand. Just wanted to clarify that you are giving away volume 9 and not volume 6? (not that I'm looking a gift-horse in the mouth or anything)
