Holiday Chickadees

I am rummaging around in my English Paper Piecing drawers getting organized for teaching classes in the Spring and Summer. I came across the little blocks I made using the My Little Chickadee fabrics from 2 years ago. I had a blog post, which you may remember:

Christmas in July post from 2016
Chickadees a la Ring
You can see my steps for fussy cutting the birdies and adding the green triangles by clicking the links.

I decided to make several blocks, fussy cutting those little chickadees:

Twisted Hexagon block. Note that the Chickadee is pieced right along the neck!
I can tell you don't believe me. But when Benartex sent me the fabrics, the cutter in the warehouse had sliced through several little birdies this way. Take a look at this next pic up close! He is SO happy to have his head back!

Head and body put back together
Another Chickadee auditioning atop 6 paper pieced patches. I eventually stitched him there.
Don't you just love those berries?!
I grouped 3 hexagons with 3 red diamonds. I love this little block!

3 hexagons and 3 diamonds make a larger hexagon blocks
I made 5 more of these blocks with the leftover scraps. They are 2" hexagons and diamonds. I plan on making a larger ring of six blocks and adding a seventh in the center. I have to take my husband to physical therapy 3 times this week, so take along hand work is a MUST.

When I eventually get these put together I'll post the picture here. I love the handwork involved with EPP and I enjoy teaching these classes, too.

I think Christmas is right around the corner, but after a huge house move and then my husband's surgery, everything's a blur. But I do have some small Christmas quilts up (thank God for push pins!) and a few table runners. And I will have lots of food to feed my kids and grandkids, so that's as far as I get. (Lucky them: they get cash in a card under the tree!)

Maybe working on these little chickadees will get me in the holiday spirit. Hope you enjoyed seeing them.

  4. These blocks are as cute as can be Debby. I really love them.
I haven't done anything for Christmas this year either. My hubby went through some very rough times and still is't much better so I know how it is. Just take care of yourself. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  5. I did enjoy seeing them. It's a toss up whether I like these or the cardinals better, but both are beautiful!
