Contest is over. My winners are Sandy A. of Missouri and Jean M. of Mississippi. But the Scottie dog appliqué pattern is still FREE!
OK. Last week I had cats. I'm an equal opportunity animal lover. Today I will share a collection of dog fabrics and a project I made with them. Well, not all of them! Here are the fabrics called
Dotty for Scottie by Greta Lynn for Benartex. Aren't they SO CUTE!
And here is what I figured I would have the time to come up with in order to get this published while the fabrics are still new. It is based on a Scottie dog pattern we ran about 25 years ago in Quilt Magazine. A pillow case is quick and fun and takes less time to make than a quilt!
I incorporated the appliquéd dog on the main part of the pillow case. You can see a pillow case tutorial in a past blog post (using Benartex fabrics, btw). There are no raw edges and it's a VERY quick way to make a sweet gift for just about anyone.
Pillow Case Tutorial gives links to several sites for making these.
Let's see my Scottie up close:

Scottie Dog fits on 8" square for a quilt block |
And just a few steps:
1. Trace from pattern onto freezer paper. Iron onto right side of fabric (I used some Pearl Essence by Benartex). The wrong side of the fabric has fusible webbing already attached.
|
Freezer paper template |
2. Cut out; remove freezer paper. Now it's ready to be attached to whatever background fabric you desire. In this case, the pillow case!

I made the pillow case and before I stitched up the sides, I appliquéd my doggie. Then I finished the pillow case. Wanna see it?
|
Even added a red bow tie! |
I have a 1930s reproduction quilt that has a scottie on it. Wanna see THAT?

Now, if you're with me this far, you can have the
FREE Scottie dog appliqué pattern. Click the link to download the one page pdf from my SECURE server. It will look like this . . .
It will be full size for accurate printing:
Scotty Dog Appliqué.
And if you want to see these CUTE up close, check out the
Dotty for Scottie fabrics at the Benartex web site. They are in quilt stores NOW.
I have TWO sets of six one-third yard cuts (that's 2 yards of fabric in each set) to giveaway. The Benartex warehouse was too generous and I have duplicates. To be entered to win, leave a comment below about anything you liked about this post. MAKE SURE I have your email (many of you come through with NO emails). This is open to USA only addresses due to the high cost of shipping (I'm sorry). Contest is over Friday, October 4 at midnight. I give the winners 24 hours to get back to me before I move on to another person, so pay attention to your email!
And if you have a chance, go visit the
Benartex Facebook page to see all that's happening there.
Thanks for stopping by!

ReplyDeleteSuch cute prints! Thanks so much for the Scottie Dog appliqué pattern!
ReplyDeleteScottie dogs bring such happy memories for me. Somehow I ended up with lots of scottie doing fabric years ago and made a maternity shirt for myself with the print upside down! Later I had enough to make a skirt for my daughter. A scottie dog something (pillow) or quilt, should be perfect for my grandbaby.
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Scottie themed gifts would be perfect to make for some of my dog loving friends. Love the fabric you chose for the scottie applique.
ReplyDeleteI love Scotties! My last dog was one and she was the best dog I ever had. I have been color ring Scottie stuff ever since. Will be looking for these in the store now!

ReplyDeleteI've always been drawn to the Scottie dog applique for some reason. Maybe it's because I'm also drawn to the '30s repro prints and Scotties were used in many of those prints. The vintage quilt block you included in this post is right up my alley. I might just have to think about it a bit and see if I can come up with something for a miniature quilt. Great! Yet another project to add to the always growing list :-).

I'm a doggie lover here! Cats are OK, but they make my eyes swell and my skin breaks out in hives, so I need to stick with loving my dogs! Seeing your applique using freezer paper makes me think of how I could transfer that idea to using my dog's profile to make a sweet pillow! Thanks so much! duchick at gmail dot com
