Windham Wednesdays with Foxwood

Every so often I come across a collection that just captures my heart. Foxwood is one of those! This ships to quilt shops in July, so I'm here to whet your appetite! There are forest animals like porcupines. Hedgehog!

With 24 fabrics in this collection, the possibilities are endless. The foxes and hedgehogs are in 3 colors; the turkeys/ducks/guinea fowl are in 2 colors.

Well, where am I going? I was stumped for a few weeks because I didn't want to leave anything out. I waited for the animals to start whispering to me, to let me know how they wanted to show off. I had a small hexagon wreath I created out of Artisan Cotton (also by Windham). But what would be perfect to put in the center? THE FOX started barking and pacing and trying to get my attention and he jumped up on my cutting table and pointed to the wreath. (Honest; I'm not kidding!)

But the fox had a different idea. This was it!

I stitched it down, first around the inside. Then trimmed. Then I placed it on my background print.

Now, what about the other animals? Glad you asked.

Yes, I have added 2" Pentagons in 4 of the other prints. "Now where's she going?" you ask. Let me show you!

That's enough for now. I have a lot of process shots I'll put into a pattern soon. And I want to make the other Foxwood animals into their blocks. In the meantime, take a visit to the Windham Fabrics website to see the Foxwood Collection. There's a beautiful Look Book to view, too.

  1. Love the animals and the great way to show them off....

  2. The first animal is not a porcupine, but a hedgehog. They look similar to the untrained eye, but are actually very different. I love the way you framed the fox with hexies!

  3. Yes, you are right. I initially called him a hedgehog but the spines/needles threw me off. Thanks for your eagle eye. I've corrected it.

  5. I really like the way you used the fussy cut foxes. This looks like a great collection, and I always like Windham fabrics.
