Reach for the Stars Quilts

OK. I know that it's not Winter yet, but it is beginning to feel like it! I live on the East Coast (of the USA) and we have just turned our clocks back to Standard Time. To me, all that darkness means WINTER! The only way I can survive the next few months of darkness is to sew. I don't like turning on the lights inside my house at 5pm. I have been going through my winter-themed quilts and the first one I came across is my Woven Ribbon Star.

Woven Ribbon Star. 24" block, 35" x 35" quilt

This was the center of my Galaxy of Stars quilt from 2006. It was on the cover of Quilt Magazine, too!

This was a Block of the Month here on my blog a few years ago (and those patterns are no longer available). That center block is a huge 24" square! And it's so easy to piece (with NO bias edges, either). Here are two more quilts made with those big stars.

Woven Ribbon Star #2

Here is one I made using some Kaffe Fassett fabrics. So much color and I really like that black print for the background. Note that my 4 outside borders are all different prints. They work because the colors are all very similar. This is what happens when you work with scraps (ie, I had 4 strips of 6" x wof in these fabrics - lucky for me, huh?)

I'm going to go look for some more star quilts. I know I have at least a dozen (or more). Well, that's not hard when you remember I've been sewing for the camera for 28+ years.

Thanks for stopping by. And, for us quilters, we have to remember we can reach for those stars!

  1. Hi Debby! Thanks for sharing some nice eye candy with us today. Each one is better than the next. These are definitely my colors - I love all the primary and bright colors together. Throw in some polka dots and it pushes the whole project into the stratosphere! Love! ~smile~ Roseanne
