Blue and Gray Sampler BOM - Part One

As you know, I designed this quilt for Windham Fabrics using their Blue and Gray Collection. It was offered in the Keepsake Quilting Catalog (2016). There are six 12" blocks and one 24" block!

Here's the quilt that is our Block of the Month:

Civil War Sampler using the Blue and the Gray Collection: 72" x 72"

This was beautifully quilted by Connie Gallant and now lives in her home. These are her favorite types of fabrics!

That whopping center block is 24" x 24". But it's really not that hard to make if you use machine appliqué. Of course, you're welcome to use hand appliqué!

I based it on some of my sampler patterns from one of my many Quilter's Block a Day Calendars! This is from 2015. Yes, there are a LOT of blocks!

Here's another set of reproduction fabrics that I have in my stash, though I won't be remaking this quilt using these. But, just to give you an idea of the sorts of personality of these fabrics from that era.

Now for the fabric requirements. This is fairly simple in that I only used 5 prints from the 30 different fabrics! That's easy, right? Of course, you can mix and match your fabrics any way you wish.

I am leaning toward using Uncorked by Windham Fabrics. It is a beautiful blender with specks of gold.

Here is a fat quarter bundle from a few years ago (the fabrics are still available).

I found a fat quarter of red (left of middle in the photo above) and tested my large Fredonia Oak Leaf template on it and it works! You'll see that and more steps to the first block next time. Until then, get your fabric requirements here and hunt through your stash for what you want to work with!

I hope to make this a post every 2 weeks, but I will begin NEXT Wednesday with the first block (that center Fredonia Oak Leaf). I'll show you the steps next week. See you then!

  5. Thank you so much. I need something to occupy my mind as I wait for the results of cancer treatment, and this is right up my alley. I have TONS of CW repros, as attested to by all the bins recently filled and put on shelves. Choosing only 5 fabrics may be tricky!
