Equinox Fabrics, Day 1

I love basics! I love having a collection of fabrics that take backstage but without which, the "jazzy" fabrics couldn't stand on their own. They do what a perfect picture frame does for a prized oil painting.

Equinox is just that sort of collection.

Equinox fat 1/4s from Benartex

Here's what is said about them at the Benartex web site:

Equal parts simple and complex, the new Equinox basics will work well in both modern and traditional quilt designs. The colors are a fabric lover's dream, and the classic motif will blend seamlessly with many of our focal collections. Our basics just keep getting better and better.

They are NOT flat color. They have texture (see those swirly, curvy lines?). Equinox also has a "mottled"  use of color besides those lines. But, really, what you see is their beautiful color.. To me, they are rainbow colors. I'm not drawn to browns and tans. I like vibrant, clear color and that's what Equinox brings to my sewing table.

I was challenged to create a project using Equinox. This challenge was for all 12 of us 2025 Benartex Sewcial ambassadors, each of us using a different collection. I felt I needed some "feature" print and happened on some leftover dog panels from the Dog Gone It Collection.

Let me show you some of those prints (from 2020). Aren't these FUN?!!

Dog Gone It fabrics by Ann Lauer (Benartex)

Here's one of the quilts I made (and donated to my local guild's charity groups):

Dog Gone It quilt: 40" x 40"

And just a teaser: I pulled 4 more dog panels and selected 4 coordinating Equinox FQs with an idea in mind. The block I am using (Nonsense) is one I've used many times before and will be in my 2025 Block a Day Calendar with C & T Publishing. This will be a whopping 15" block!

4 Panels from Dog Gone It and 4 fat quarters

I already made a mistake! That's why I always say: "Always cut and sew a sample block before cutting out an entire quilt . . ." Good thing it was a small mistake (but CRUCIAL). And I'm unsure if the Equinox colors will go with those particular panels. It's OK to change your mind mid-stream - you gotta listen to those quilt voices in your head, don't we?

And here is the beautiful print that I am using for the borders and backing. Stay tuned for updates!
