My Constitution Oak and FREE Pattern
Many times I like to revisit my traditional patterns and traditional fabrics. They comfort me like no other! Constitution Oak is one I created for Windham Fabrics in 2015 based on an historic quilt. It was published many years ago in a magazine:

I have used this block pattern in my Block a Day calendars. I love the symmetry of the blocks, don't you? And I also love appliqué - when I can do it using my sewing machine!
I actually took the plunge and made the quilt from the digital pattern (which you can find the link for below). The center is a 64-patch of squares. The corners are appliqué. I used an older Windham Fabrics collection called The Coverlet Collection.

I selected my fabrics for the center 64-patch and made that checkerboard.
Then it was time to make my templates for the corners. I printed the templates and then copied them to freezer paper, which I then can attach to the fabric by ironing in place. The wrong side of the fabric has fusible webbing.

Then I cut them out and placed them on the four corners of cream (the triangles). This information is listed in the FREE pattern for this. Wait - does that appliqué look like a little kid raising his hands in the air? And there are his big feet at the bottom . . .

Here is what my machine stitching looks from the wrong side:

The pattern is written for both hand and machine appliqué. You can have it by clicking on the link below.

I also colored it in another Windham Fabrics collection called the Blue and the Grey:

My quilt is a little smaller than the online pattern because I didn't have enough of the border fabric. But it still is beautiful and will make a nice lap quilt for someone. Now I have to quilt it . . .
