Rose Star Week: Day 7
I'm back but only with the kite shaped patches and not a Rose Star block. But I think you'll like what I discovered. I pulled out some samples from my Rose Star workshop box and found these little pieced patches. I don't even remember what inspired me to stitch these, but I also discovered that I only had 4 kite units (and not 6).
I took them apart and made some with other fabrics. As you can see, I was using my own Kite template. My strips are cut 2-1/4" - 2" - 2-1/4" (that equals 5-1/2" unfinished). Pressed seams in ONE direction. They will nestle when joined with their neighbors.
Here is my Pieced Kite Hexagon (one half first). What do you think?
And the whole hexagon made of pieced kites.

I decided to upsize it using the Creative Grids Kite Plus ruler.

Flip-flop the ruler to get the next cut.

I still have ideas for these kite units. Hope you enjoyed Rose Star week. I have sold out of my hard copy patterns with acrylic template (actually, I have one left as of this morning). But I still sell the digital pdf with all the directions for the Rose Star and the paper template.
Got my kite yesterday. I hope to try next week after finishing binding on a quilt. My kids live in Bristow, not too far from you. Love the hexagon block. So many ideas.
ReplyDeleteI actually lived in Bristow for 2 years (2008-10). So, I know it well. I hope you saw a lot of possibilities this Rose Star week. I'm still designing with that little template and I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteLove the fabrics!
ReplyDeleteYes, these fabrics are an older collection from Windham: Kashmir. 2016, but the colors (to me) are timeless. The designs are so unique. Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteLove this!
ReplyDeleteWow! Ingenious! I love the strips to make the hexagon in the middle. It looks very difficult! Leave it to you! You made it SO easy! Yes, I've been quilting a while so I like techniques that are easy YET look very difficult! The more bang for my buck! Thank you for sharing this innovative technique, Debby!
